Lifelines
Climb the trust ladder with three kinds of lifeline, and find out which check works for which kind of answer.
How to play
- Five real recorded AI answers, one for each rung of the trust ladder: from text you supplied (rung 1) to something only your own firm knows (rung 5).
- For each one, choose Use it or Don't use it, then lock it in. A backed call climbs one step. Step 2 is the safe haven.
- Before you call, you can spend a lifeline, one of each: Ask it again and Ask it differently show other recorded runs, and Open the source shows what a primary source says. A lifeline with nothing to offer says why, and isn't spent.
- Using a rung 3 to 5 answer without opening the source is a fall to the safe haven, even if it turns out right, because you couldn't have known. Below step 2, a fall takes you back to the bottom.
- Not using an answer is always safe. It climbs when you have a reason: a lifeline showed a problem, the source showed it was wrong, or it's about something the model can't know (rung 5).
The trust ladder: each rung and how to check it
- Rung 1 · Rewording or summarising text you supplied · High trust. How to check: Skim for dropped, added or changed claims.
- Rung 2 · Explaining a well-established concept · Medium-high trust. How to check: Cross-check one claim you can verify; watch for oversimplification.
- Rung 3 · Facts, numbers, dates, rules and doses · Low trust. How to check: Open a primary source for every one you will use.
- Rung 4 · Citations, quotations and links · Very low trust. How to check: Assume invented until you open the source and find the words, and the point it is cited for, on the page. That it exists is not enough.
- Rung 5 · Recent events, or anything about you · Near zero trust. How to check: Provide the material yourself, or don't ask.
Every answer here is a real recorded run, labelled with its model and date. Your moves stay on this page: we count only plays, results and link clicks, without cookies.
